JACOB PARRETT, PHD

Jacob Parrett, PhD

Dr. Jacob Parrett is a graduate of Texas A&M’s doctoral program in Clinical Psychology, and he completed his internship at A&M’s university counseling center. He is currently serving in a post-doctoral role as a Provisionally Licensed Psychologist under the clinical supervision of Dr. Eden Schmeichel while he accumulates hours for full licensure. Across his training he has served a diverse range of clients across the Brazos Valley. He has provided therapy and psychological services for children, families, college students, and incarcerated adults. Separately from his private practice, Dr. Parrett still works for A&M’s University Health Services providing counseling services for students. He is excited to join AAP and continue serving the BCS community!

Dr. Parrett’s training has prepared him to work with children, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. He is happy to work with children (typically age 6+) and adolescents, either individually or with their families. He is especially interested in working with LGBTQ+ individuals and has made this community a special interest across his research and training. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself, Dr. Parrett understands the unique obstacles faced in this community and the need for representative and affirming therapy services. Dr. Parrett has frequently treated issues of anxiety, depression, life adjustments, identity formation & self-worth, prejudice & discrimination, behavioral & conduct difficulties, and familial conflict.

Dr. Parrett approaches therapy from a humanistic perspective – focusing on a person’s sense of self, their values, and their motivations. His priority is to ensure a client feels seen, heard, and valued in the therapeutic process. He frequently incorporates elements of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Family Systems, with an emphasis on meeting a client’s needs at an individual level. Dr. Parrett’s approach seeks to empower you as a person, leaning on your strengths and nurturing growth in areas of difficulty.
