Rebecca Robles-Piña, PhD — College Station, TX — Associates For Applied Psychology

Rebecca Robles-Piña, Ph.D.

My name is Rebecca Robles-Piña, Ph.D. I am licensed clinical psychologist, licensed specialist in school psychology, and a school counselor. I spent 23 years at Sam Houston State University in the Department of Counselor Education teaching and supervising clinical work. At the same time, I managed a small clinical practice.

Since retirement two years ago, I have supervised doctoral level psychologists at Texas A&M University Behavioral Healthcare in their clinical work while also teaching courses at Texas A&M University Kingsville at the RELLIS campus in College Station, Texas. Currently, I am seeking to expand my clinical practice.

My philosophy about counseling is that we are all on a journey to be the best persons we can be. Along the way, however, we encounter setbacks due to losses (relationships, medical problems, jobs, dreams, hopes) which can lead to mental health problems like trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and others. It is during this time that I as a mental health professional can help.

I use a variety of helping theories and techniques to assist clients. Initially, I use a humanistic approach, which helps me get to know clients by explaining the counseling process and listening in a non-judgmental manner. If appropriate, another theory I practice is Cognitive Behavioral where thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behavior are examined to relieve stress and improve coping strategies. Further, I use expressive therapies, such as music, art, sand, and play to help resolve mental health issues. I am fluent in both English and Spanish and my practice includes children and adults.
